Hi, how hard set is the work experience requirement in JDs for PMs. If somebody applies with less experience will they get outright rejection? How much deficit of WE is acceptable? And how to show experiences per year rather than work ex in years?

I got hired as an APM in InMobi. JD mentioned 4 yoe I had 4mo.
I've interviewed with top companies and start-ups that rejected me in a similar way- Xiaomi, Google and a couple others.
It is definitely possible but it takes you 3-6 mo with tons of hustle and some substance in your CV.
You shouldn't expect a position too senior for yourself too.
But in general apply to jobs that are upto +2 years of work ex than what you have. It all depends on internal requirements and if a hiring manager thinks someone with a little less exp can get the job done.
