Will have to Let Go of My Dream Offer – Need Advice!

Hey everyone,

I recently went through a tough situation and would love to hear your thoughts or any similar experiences. Here’s what happened:

I got selected for a Software Apprenticeship at Google, which was a dream opportunity for me. However, my current company, Accenture, has a 30-day notice period, and they were not willing to release me early despite multiple requests. I spoke to my recruiter at Google, but unfortunately, they couldn't extend my joining date beyond April 1st. During the hiring process, I was also dealing with a personal tragedy – I lost my father. This offer felt like a ray of hope for my family, both emotionally and financially. Despite trying everything—requesting early release, reaching out to senior HRs, and explaining my situation—I had no choice but to decline the offer since I couldn’t serve the required notice period in time. I withdrew my resignation at Accenture, and while my HR approved it, I am now concerned about how this might impact my future growth (promotions, appraisals, etc.) in the company.

Honestly, this whole experience has been disheartening. It’s frustrating how rigid corporate policies can be, leaving no room for flexibility even in special cases.

Has anyone faced something similar? How do you navigate such situations? Would really appreciate any insights!

Sorry, but What is “Software apprentice” position? Is it another name for “internship”? Never heard it for working folks. What exactly is the work involved there? How is it different from regular Software Developer job?

It is a 12 months program (no conversion to full time or permanent ). It is designed as 20% learning and 80%working with team on actaul projects.

Accenture is a trap.. I lost many opportunities because of 90 days NP... But I resigned now trusting my wings to get better opportunities outside.... You have a long path to travel.. Don't get disheartened, your time will come..

As I am new joiner , I am on entry level pool(bench) means there is no any dependency on me, I even proposed out the buy out option but the HR didn't agree. 🥺

If you have done it once, you can do it again.

Do not talk to your manager, escalate to HR in writing. If you don't have critical delivery can be relieved

Hello, thanks for the advice. But I a new joiner and currently on entry level pool(bench) . So I don't have any manager or supervisor as of now, only point of contact is HPRa. So, I reached out to her with the request, but she completely denied saying yoi will have to serve the np of 30 days under any circumstances and I even proposed buyout option but denied saying companies policies have been changed and these things are not promoted . 🥲

If you have cleared a google interview once means you can easily do it in future for a permanent role only. This is not a UPSC or IIT or IIM, you will get ample opportunity to switch in IT to any company you want for any package. I have seen people who can't develop one feature get into big companies just with leetcode practice. So for now you think of family, you can switch anytime you want. And don't think too much of company policies, it's common for everyone unlike government policies which varies based on bribe.

I would suggest for companies having such rigid policies and not being employee centric without giving considerations even to reasons as yours, the only advice would be leave ASAP.

But how to leave ? Somehow I managed got an incredible opportunity and that i have to leave bcz of 30days np and that too when there is no dependency on me at all. What will they do when i will be in project and np will be of 90 days..🥲

I was 6 year old software engineer when I resigned from one of such mnc, I wasn't given early exit as 2-3 other employees from team had left within a span of 2-3 months. I tried all excuses, personal problems, hubby shifting to different locations, all failed.

And I took the risk of joining a new organisation without exit clearance , just shared my lwd day and thank you to my peers and employers. And joined new organisation

In couple of days I reached my HR on a personal email which I missed, few days after I replied apologizing for not being able to respond on time due to personal reasons.

They asked me to come over and gave me my relieving letter with fnf settlement of date when I collected the same ie of 20 days after I left and joined the new organisation.

Now came the challenge of overlapping employment in the PF portal, so my new company revised my joining 21st day..
I had taken a hit on financials and risked my relieving experience letter, but switched the company.

So 30th Oct 2015 is my Lwd 2nd nov I joined the second org But the revised joining date became 21st nov 2015

Yes payrol was also impacted because of paper work
