Why should we pay tax ?

Why is there no option to not pay tax, when we are barely getting anything in return ? Why is it mandatory ? Why do we have so many taxes ? Why are we not questioning the govt ? Why is an elected body whose main purpose is to serve the tax payers and abid to "By the people, for the people, to the people", but instead its serving the rich and powerful and abiding yo "by the illeterates and scam artists, for the rich, to keep them rich" ?

Army and security forces are ok

But why are u including roads here . It's a comedy when you come to the main cities in India like Banglore

There is a difference between planning and building. Govt has built the roads with little planning, doesn’t mean they haven’t pushed money into them and that comes from taxes.

The real question you should ask is:

Why are others not paying as high taxes as they should?

ZoomyMuffin

The perception that we get nothing in return is because of roads, trnasport water, traffic, police, law, hospitals, schools etc.

Most of these are responsibilities of local Govt: municipalities and corporations.

If you Look at the finances of local Govt, all are growing broke and they live at the mercy of State transfers. They aren't even allowed to borrow.

If you want to reduce your tax outgo: You should fight for lowering taxes. But if you really want good services, you should be asking that why are others not paying as high taxes as you!

US had a similarly high tax during their post war infrastructure drive.

But yes the burden of tax collection is overwhelmingly on the middle class

There is an option not to paybtax. Become a farmer. We export billion dollars worth of basmati rice alone in a year. All tax free. Not just tax free, no property tax, no electricity bill, no water bill.. everything free. Plus the government will pay you 12k every year.

Are you a farmer? Actually you know what, you’re going with what other tells you. I belong to farmer family, we pay water, electricity bills, we pay toji as a property tax every year. Yes govt pays 12k and I agree thats not good, but you will never understand farmers until you become one. You don’t know about natural calamities, you don’t know if you get right price for the seeds. Lots of cost involved in farming, you know what we don’t even earn from farming, its just roti we get.

5 problems, 1 solution - Get out, while you can! I know it sounds pessimistic, but let's face it, none of the things that should be priority is -

  1. Waste management
  2. Flood management (did you see what happened with 100mm rainfall in Mumbai for newly inaugurated 37000 crore metro station?)
  3. Tackling air pollution
  4. Water scarcity
  5. Lack of public infrastructure
  6. Lack of good quality affordable education & Healthcare

The list goes on and on....

Become a part of the system and change it, not easy. Questioning is just the first step.

You really think you can play within the game knowing the game is fully controlled and rules are bent as and when needed, including law and order for the benefit of their own ?

The real question should be- why are only 2-3% (not sure about the latest data) people paying taxes in India and not everyone earning? Too many loopholes available to escape the taxes.

SqueakyWalrus

That's what. Why is it the way it is ? And when new crazy things are brought in with minor reliefs, why are people not focusing on these crazy things, but instead console themselves with those minor reliefs

Nobody does anything without incentive. You won't do your job for nothing right? If your salary and bonus doesn't come on time. People in the govt are same too. What incentive do they have in serving us? Let's take for example Bangalore s Outer Ring Road. I promise you it's gonna get much much much worse in the next 10 years( I want myself to be proved wrong here and happy for it) Reason being...you me educated lot of migrant workers are not gonna vote for them. Even if we do, they don't care as we are minority, until and unless they get their fare share of votes by petty schemes and influencing the local people, why should they care? Hope it's clear.

So, basically the solution to this is to control the ones who are controlling us ?

All.over the world salaried people are the target . So start a business or agriculture to not pay taxes... at least in other countries they're getting free education, medical insurance and proper infra

Paying taxes is what is saving your ass from the porkistan / bhikharistan. But I agree a huge portion goes away in corruption, we are yet to find a way to deal with this. Most probably never because no government will strike their own foot.

PeppyPretzel

Bro, corruption is still ok It's a worldwide issue, in India the problem is the lavish lifestyle of politicians, IAS, IPS officers, Judges and other govt employees. You will not see such a lifestyle anywhere in the world.
