Why relying 100% on your corporate health insurance is a high-stakes gamble. šŸ„

Seeing a lot of folks here assume their ₹5L or ₹7L office cover is enough. It’s a great perk, but here’s the "insider" reality you should consider:

  1. The 'Pink Slip' Risk: If you leave your job (or get laid off) and have a health emergency during the transition, you are effectively uninsured.

  2. Standardization: Corporate plans are "one size fits all." They often have room-rent caps or co-pay clauses that you only discover when the bill hits the TPA desk.

  3. The Aging Factor: If you wait until you’re 45 to buy a personal plan, your premiums will be massive, or worse—pre-existing conditions might get permanently excluded.

The Strategy: Get a personal Base Plan (₹5L) + a Super Top-up (₹15L-20L, which may go upto 1 Cr.). It’s often cheaper than a single ₹20L plan and gives you lifelong portability regardless of where you work.

Check your policy document for "Room Rent Limits" today—it's the #1 reason for out-of-pocket expenses!

Medical insurance is the second biggest scam in India after government services. Why? Most medical insurance covers mainly hospitalizations. Hospital admission does burn a hole in the pocket, but it's is just one big one time expense that ruins people. People who survive the hospital and come out have to go on with OPD treatment and get ruined slowly. Medical insurance doesn't cover them.
Today with modern treatments, many diseases get treated at OPD and medication levels. Admission for treatment is done only for surgeries. In most hospitals surgeriea are offered in "packages".

So, all that 20lakh 25lakh insurance youvtake if it doesn't cover OPD treatment expenses, you are just paying the company and the gvmt.

Invest that premium in an FD. After 20 years that corpus will be enough for that surgery.

True.. You can take additional OPD cover to get your OPD expenses reimbursed. But, I can't say it is a scam. Today, I have no job but am doing some freelance recruitment work. Thankfully I bought a personal mediclaim policy within 2 years of my meeting with a small injury at the knee but it was a lot of pain, I saw her crying. When we see 4 specialist doctors everyone said that her meniscus is torn and that had to be repaired. Every hospital gave me a quotation 3+ Lakh but I felt relaxed because that treatment got cashless and I had to pay on 16k. For last 2 years I gave a premium of 45k but against that I got it treated for 3 lakh. Also, I used that policy for wellness benefits such as Zumba for wife and Gym for myself. For 1500 additional premium annually. Till now I reimbursed 2k of OPD amount. I don't think the amount lying in FD couldn't have done that and moreover I was relaxed that all documentation and admission process was done by hospital administration. Please never underestimate insurance, you never know when you will be in need of it. So, have one policy to safeguard yourself from uncertainty. I can guide you if you are interested to know more of policy features believe me you won't regret taking policy. Call me on 7498815152 - Sunil
