Why is the middle class’s idea of “paisa vasooli” all about piling on free food and freebies, whether they need them or not?

We do not get the value for the money we spend in any walk of our life. We know our taxes are misused. We know our babus are corrupt. The hospital we visit, the doctor focus on how much money the patient has more than his/her symptoms. We buy something, we don't get what is advertised. We enter into a contract/ business deal, we are ore likely to be cheated than not.

When chances of dishonesty are high in every wwalk of our life, we try to get max benefit where ever possible.

We are a low trust society.

Boomers were raised in scarcity and everything was kept under government watch, so they clenched onto everything that they can.

This behaviour was passed onto millenials from boomers, when in 1991 economy was libralised still its effects were not widespread, it is after 2000 when salaries increased for employees (private and government ) some people tested abundance.

But still old behaviour dont go away easily

International flights. People eat and drink like pigs. Some behave like they are seeing food and water for the first time in their life. I have seen people asking for water the moment they sit/ or the fight is in air. On the alcohol, the less i say the better.

I think, There are two type of middle classes, and lower class involved. Middle middle class and Lower middle class. Middle middle class person thinks it is his money that is getting distributed in forms of freebies so he don't want to let anyone touch freebies which indirectly is his money(taxes if we also think that as scenario) according to his imagination, so will take whatever is distributing, they have feelings of kuch to wasoola. Lower middle class and lower class are group of people which finds happiness, they don't want anything in return it's more like, for majorly they will gift whatever it is to their family, although no use case them but know the joy their family will have. For food both lower middle class and lower class could save some money by eating free food. They are ready to take the risk of food hygiene anyways where they currently eat also doesn't have proper hygiene so indirectly they don't care
And if the freebies/ food is what they really want, phir to kya lower class / upper class 😝.

Maybe because they feel it will be useful to them sooner or later.

And when they would need that thing, they won't have to spend any extra money as they have already got it for free.

Why are welfare schemes branded as freebies?

On average, every Indian pays 24% of their income in indirect taxes. They in no way contribute less to a country's development than corporate folks. However, when a government announces a welfare scheme for the marginalized, everyone sta...
