Why is life so hard for guys?

This is a rant post. Here is what is expected from a guy in India

  • Study well, go to a great college.
  • Get a high paying job.
  • Marry at the right time or else all your achievements are a waste.
  • Buy depreciating assets like car, houses etc
  • Have kids at the right time.
  • Give your kids the right upbringing.
  • Take care of your parents.
  • Be part of the society

Whereas, for girls all of the above do apply but are good to have things and not a must have.

If anything is missed from the above list, unfortunately society thinks you have not done the bare minimum.

Now my question is who has all of this sorted considering at whatever point of life they are in.

This is what we call Patriarchy, you are victim of it too These are choices, you can choose to follow them (or not).

Also, stop comparing yourself with girls.

men's first of half life is hard while for women the second half is hard.

in second half of life, there 2 ways for women: way1: married women r stuck in timeloop after they get married and growing their kids... while men can still can take it easy! best example most of our mothers!

way2: unmarried, then she needs to work harder than men to earn because they get paid less and it's not easy win politics and ignore other harassments then at late age super hard to get married and mostly all alone... for men even 50+ you can get married

Wrong for the current world, true for the old world.

Can't compare our mother's generation of women to current. Both those women & their troubles are mostly gone.

Only men bare the brunt in this era. Both before and after first half.

SillyMarshmallow

it's quite opposite, old gen women were alot free of stress and earnings .. nowadays both go for work, anyways tell me example or how!

also..

if a man struggles both first and second half then it means he has totally wasted his first half because he really has worked hard at the first half then the second half should be easy.

I can suggest a mindset change. Instead of having "I have rights to these" change mindset to "These are my duties, please god help me fulfill them". Try this for sometime.

GroovyWaffle

The complaint is exactly asking why does op has these duties. And women don’t.

So why does you have to assume girl should have same duties? Both are diferent and have their specific role. Chekout my other comment here.

House is a depreciating asset, since like ..when??

FloatingCupcake
FloatingCupcake

A built structure is depreciating asset whereas it's the land which is appreciating asset. So yeah, "house" is depreciating asset.

FloatingWaffle
FloatingWaffle

It's more zig zag. While land is always an appreciating asset, house appreciates for about first 5-8 yrs of its construction. And then stagnates and then falls.

Women get judged as much as men if not more. Grass is always greener on the other side. Both sides have their own pros and cons.

GroovyWaffle
GroovyWaffle

No they don’t. Our society is always more sympathetic and responsive to the perils of woman. I remember hilary clinton saying real victims of war are women left behind. And it was well appreciated and lauded. People who died weren’t the real victims.

A pattern you may see is more often than not (say 60%) women complain about things and they get fixed. How many times have you seen that happen to a man? They don’t like being judged even a bit cos they are already judging themselves. Hence you hear about it more often as it’s coming from a place of “what will people think?” Rather than “people said that and it was mean”. Men would still do the things they need to do even if everyone disagrees and judges them for it without complaining about the vocal scrutiny.

SillyJellybean

Get over it buddy. Men are men, women are women, not all of them are exactly the same. You can find good and bad people across genders. That's just how it is.

Complaining achieves nothing.

Everything was in place except the girl have it on easy part. Mother is the 1st teacher, so who have the upper hand on right upbringing? And if it is missed the whole next generation collapse and start a vicious cycle. They just have different way of contribution. Just like cement does while buiding bricks structure, not providing direct strength but the adhesive for that strength.

This is so true. I totally agree with you. I empathize with OP. It's true men face these difficulties and society also has these expectations out of them mainly due to patriarchy. Men and women are different, we can't compare the struggles and say women have it easy like OP said. It's like comparing apples and oranges. Both men and women are essential for our society, each have their own struggle in life, every human being.

These expectations from society is really sad and we must become the cycle breakers of these age old norms.

It's high time that we stop doing men vs women and pit the genders against each other but come together and say, "men and women" to create a better society where everyone can coexist peacefully or at least better than before.

Its all about the collective expectation of society about an individual.

For guys :

Car, House, Lands what not.

For girls :

Beauty, Marriage , accepting unconventional stuff thrust on them.

Its hard for both genders in this generation. Just that the Top 1% achieve everything what we wanna have and hence the Rat race starts !!!
