Why is google advertising jobs when their have been layoffs

I saw ads on social networking websites where google was advertising open positions? Haven’t there been layoffs at google? Are they trying to appease investors?

The open positions are in teams that did not have layoffs

That’s interesting, why didn’t the management decide to restructure and optimise resource allocation instead of going for layoffs? Is this for salvaging their image?

Same is happening across the industry. Just today, I received mail from Accenture for not moving forward with my application due to recent uncertain developments. What are those developments, f**k no one knows. Yet, the HRs were calling me like they would just hire me on the spot for 1-2 months for the interview. Pathetic situation
