Why do IT folks consider going at Clients location(foreign location) at their ultimate goal in their life?

I have many friends who are into IT and Tech(read again Tech not IT). Whenever I am speaking to the IT folks and understand their aspirations I always find that they have this strange thing mentioned every now and then i.e. Going to the Clients location(all overseas) for a couple of months and coming back or extending for a longer duration say a few years and purchasing a house/flat back in India.

I don't understand how going to the client's location(even if it's on Mars) and earning $$$ can be life's ultimate goal.

What am I missing here?

I am not able to understand since I have always believed that life's ultimate goal would be always bigger for people(achievable/non achievable are different things). Does working in IT make people so myopic that they are destined to think in the straight line process and wait for that token(at least what I have heard is that it's some weird selection they do to select and send you abroad on the projects). May be this thought process makes most of the crowd stick to the systems for years and decades at work. Is it considered that bigger of an achievement OR Is it a way to make people stick around for longer duration ?

Workculture abroad is no match to our slavery attitude. This is a difference that cannot be explained but only experienced. Working abroad has multiple financial challenges. But if you are willing to put up with that the experience is worth it.
Not to mention, having a"phoren" experience in your resume boosts your chances in india when you want to switch over.

That’s the dream they are sold since college or early years of a job.

Also earning in $$ and saving in ₹₹ is an Indian mentality. Most hope that an on-site position will turn into full-time employment.

Respect you get in India for earning in dollar. My friends makes hardly $60k,but people feel great about him than someone making 20-30 lakhs in India.

Does anyone truly *enjoy* their job in tech?

Relatively new to tech - only 2 years of experience here so far. Yet find it extremely cyclical. Face the same challenges over and over again. Perhaps the setting changes occasionally but that’s really it. I understand this is not unique...

Is it even worth climbing up?

Hi Grapeviners,

Question for those at higher level (SM+)

How do you perceive your job? Isn't that too demanding, boring and depressing (corporate politics) at the same time considering you're stuck doing it for years/decades on end...

Need career advice as a senior Android developer

Don't get me wrong I love android app development (6 years) but off late I've seem to hit a brick wall and the pay isn't great as well. Only thing keeping me sane is for my love for Kotlin.

I see people being somewhat good at their job...
