Why Do Big Companies Not Update Interview Portals?

Observation: Noticing that many big companies don’t update their interview portals even after the interviews are completed — the status often continues to show “Under Consideration,” and HR teams don’t always respond.

Has anyone else seen this happening? How common is this?

Unfortunately, that is very common. Recruiters & HR are generally understaffed and overburdened in most companies, so they are always working under pressure and scrambling, and mistakes happen, or they don't get time to update things and close process formalities on time. Their focus is generally on talking to selected candidates, and they will just ignore others.

Also, due to changing business conditions, open positions sometimes temporarily get put on hold by management, so HR themselves have no clarity about what to do about those positions, except wait and watch.

Generally, HR will go and 'clean up' their pending work and defunct positions, once every 2-4 weeks. Till then, positions will show in hanging status.

Also, sometimes, the recruiters are themselves looking for other jobs, and midway through your interview process, the recruiter themselves might switch and leave the company.

So all candidates in the system assigned to that recruiter who left, suddenly get "orphaned" / "stuck" in hanging position forever, and their status will never get updated 😅
