Why are corporate people so superficial? Is it only me who feels this way.

I am from a lower middle class family. I have been part of many group conversations with co-workers apart from work. I observed that I could not even relate with that they speak out and find the conversations very surface level, materialistic and sometimes just trying to show off. While I know most of them come from the same middle class family as me. They seem to be more influenced by social media and aspire to lead a life like an influencer, which they themselves are fake and far away from reality. It's none of my business what they aspire for. But I find it very superficial and fake. And there is no take away from those talks. Does anyone else feel the same? Please do not tell me this is corporate, do your and go home because that I know already.

The conversations in the corporate world are superficial, because sharing deeply is dangerous in the corporate environment.

You are there to get along with everyone, and to be able to work with everyone. You can't share your deep thoughts about religion, politics, nationalism etc., because other coworkers might have different views, and they might get offended by your opinions, which will make it harder for you to work with them in the future.

Worse, if your bosses start disliking you, that will hurt your chances of growth and promotion in the future.

Also, you can't share about your personal problems, health issues, financial problems, etc. in life, because others will gossip and misuse that information against you in the future behind your back for office politics, to paint you in a negative light, and hurt your growth in the future, or even get you fired.

So everyone plays it safe, and sticks to superficial and fake conversations, to avoid giving ammunition to others. Remember, in corporate, everyone is your coworker but no one is your friend.

If you don't understand this basic fact about corporate politics and life, that why other people interact superficially, means that you are lagging behind in understanding the corporate game, and that is a danger to your own career and survival in corporate.

So catch up fast, level up, and learn how to play the corporate game to win. Good luck! πŸ‘

You are just being judgemental. There is no fixed reality for all. Each one perceives life differently and acts accordingly. It is common for lower income groups to think that they are holding higher moral ground and are being more natural. Which makes them judgmental. I was also from a lower income group, but as you grow you will understand everyone is correct in their own way

I disagree with being judgemental but respect your perspective. Thank you

Wtf come out of your utopia 1cr is no where middle class in India πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Majority of middle class Indians don't earn 1cr

Typically, middle class by income in India is defined by families earning between 5 lakh and 30 lakh.

This is divided into two categories, lower middle class, earning between 5 and 15, while higher middle class earning between 15 and 30.

Rich, 30 lakh and above

Super rich, 2 cr and above

HNI - Investable assets (liquid assets) above 5cr.

Indian Work Culture is shit, because we Indians are disgraceful, in india only thing relevant to a work culture is buttering as much as you can rest all will take care. I am abhorred by the kind of buttering people do of the managers feels like even if the manager says to lick his shoes they are gonna do it. And the worst part is then they act cool as if nothing happened. Have some self respect guys

Yes I always feel the same, I think this has become a trend to show off everything whether it is relevant or not.

In my opinion it takes one away from real life which creates imbalances in human society.

There you go strong words that matters: ”it takes one away from real life which creates imbalances in human society."

Appreciate it πŸ™‡ We are not machines.

Exactly we are human beings, who can feel everything without showing off.

I have such people around me who try whatever it takes to be a part of the crowd... They just believe in what is generally perceived as cool as a herd.

Just be yourself. don't try to be that kind of corporate rats. Also collaborate with everyone but share your thoughts only people who is like you. In most of the case you will be alone. But make up your mind to handle the loneliness. I feel same in my 3 company in 3 years of corporate.

People are superficial and you are not judgemental. Actually you are correct.

Did I mention everybody? We all know how the corporate world is, I do not have to point out. I just wanted to know others perspectives. I'm not saying I am a saint. Because of that I have already mentioned in the post that it is none of my business to tell how they should be.
