Which would be the best option- Chennai/Auckland? SAP consultant -10YOE

Which will be best for long term? Given the current economic situation in NZ and poor job market, it’s hard to decide. Family of 3; sole earner

Leave India as soon as you get the opportunity. The rule is simple.

Also, I have checked the cost of living in Auckland, 90k NZD annually is more than enough to sustain you there. The approx max amount you would need to sustain a family of 3 in there is around 80k, the rest is your savings with added better living conditions and security than in India. Rent is around 2000-4000 nzd per month Grocery around 500 nzd Transportation around 600 nzd (depend on your needs but I am taking average) Utilities around 500 nzd Other expenses 1000 nzd

Yeah but with 25lpa in India you can live a comfortable life and not just sustain.

Think about it, tomorrow if they elect someone like Trump, your life is screwed 😂😅

Bro it's very obvious choice here, go with the offer in Chennai, don't fall for the abroad opportunity trap, you'll end up losing more money in taxes and cost of living than in Chennai. Chennai also has better SaaS ecosystem in the whole country than a very outdated NZ where you'll not find much to learn and grow. Also NZ is in recession, so there is a risk of job loss and heavy inflation at this point in time

I have lived in NZ for 6months:

  • In chennai you will definitely save more
  • India has better economic growth and opportunities
  • NZ will give you unmatched life quality and you might never want to come back
  • Indian community is strong in Auckland so you won’t feel out of place for long

Considering this I initially planned to settle in NZ/Aus and hence went for internship there for my final year. But the ground reality is that, if you are ambitious, this is definitely not a place to be. Jobs are scarce if you are not in Civil field. Most ambitious people from NZ end up working in Aus. The culture in NZ is very very chill (similar to Europe) and people focus more on life. If coming back to India you will be out skilled and your drive to work in Indian environment will be 0.

In NZ you will become healthier and get time to focus more on family but you won’t be able to save much or achieve potential in terms on skills&wealth. Also Auckland and NZ is quite expensive and with this salary you will not be able to live lavishly (though this is not a bad quality in overall standards)

True reality, Thanks!

Chennai looks like a better option compared to NZ since their economy is in recession. Read the article below about how NZ citizens are leaving the country. Do research on your own as well. Hope this helps. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/nov/26/i-love-my-country-i-dont-want-to-leave-readers-reflect-on-the-exodus-from-new-zealand

NZ is a good country to live in, and your onsite work experience will be more valuable than what you getting here in india
