Which other credit cards should I get?

My annual expenses are close to 5L. Most of them are for utility bill payments (electricity) and domestic travel.

Currently I have 3 credit cards

  1. HDFC Millennia CC
  2. Flipkart Axis CC
  3. Swiggy HDFC CC

The combined credit of all these cards is around 5L.

I was thinking should I close any of my existing credit cards and apply for some other credit cards.

Any suggestions?

Should definitely check out the Amex MRCC - you get 1k bonus points on spending 6k (1.5k * 4 transactions) and 1k points for hitting 20k spends. Very easy to get the 2k points in a month.

Along with this get the IDFC vistara card. Free flight tickets on hitting certain spend milestones.

I don't live in one of the locations listed by AMEX for their CC requirements. 🥲

It's ok if you get a new credit card but NEVER close your existing credit card. It will erase that card's old credit history and it will affect your credit score. Instead ask the bank to reduce the limit for the card you rarely use.

I didn't know this. Thank you for letting me know. But if I don't use the CC, then I will have to pay the yearly fee if I do not cross the threshold spending amount.

Just keep the oldest one active and close any other you don't use, that decides your credit age. PS: You can call and ask your bank to close the credit card and mention the annual fees as the reason. Usually they waive it off. Banks hate using credit card customers, even at the cost of not earning from them

Get vistara axis card, you'll get a couple of complimentary flight tickets voucher by spending around 5l in a year

How is your experience with the HDFC millennia card?

GoofyPotato
GoofyPotato

Good so far. But I don't see any benefits with this card. Earlier I had Money Back+ and got upgraded to Millennia with 10% increase in limit.
