Why is the question almost never answered by : What would I love to do irrespective of the money ? Cause if you are in the top x percentile anywhere, x varies but money happens.

Because you are associating "loving something to do" with "getting at the top x percentile", when there's a huge gap between the two.
"getting at the top x percentile" can be engineered to achieve even when you hate every single bit of the process.
