Where do you see yourself in next 10 Years ?

They say experience brings clarity, but after 13 years in IT, all I have is a blurred vision of the future—probably thanks to all those late-night production issues.

I started as a technical guy, happily coding away, thinking the biggest challenge in life was debugging spaghetti code. Then, one day, someone thought, "Hey, let’s make him a Project Manager!" And just like that, I went from solving technical issues to solving people issues. Now, I manage a team of 70, juggling deadlines, expectations, and the occasional "urgent" escalation that could have waited till Monday.

Am I a good performer? Sure! Do I have my life figured out? Absolutely not. The way technology is evolving, I feel like a 90s dial-up connection in a 5G world. AI, automation, cloud, quantum computing—by the time I wrap my head around one trend, another one pops up like a software update I didn’t sign up for.

Meanwhile, my home loan is locked in for another 17 years. But staying in my job that long? Well, let’s just say that’s as uncertain as a project delivery timeline. So here I am, trying to navigate a future where robots might take my job before my EMI does.

Any career advice? Or should I just start a street food stall and call it "Techie's Tandoori"?

Sell that house and invest money in mutual fund. Shift to a rented house, reduce expenses, don't buy iphone and don't shop at malls. Suddenly you will get clarity in life, trust me it's personal experience.

Try to get rid of that EMI in next 7 -8 years , bulk payments , increase emi by bits . And as per future , try to restrospect on what picks your interest. Also if you like being in technocal field , you can always switch back. Yes more than knowledge of AI and newer fields in depth, its the applications and understanding of whats there is more important. Hope that helps. I have a similar work ex as you do.

Suggest that you carve out time for L&D and some free time on video content that interests you Then you can find out what you like and then start to engage in those things If you continue that for a year, then it's something you enjoy and like but if you drop it quickly, that's not your interest.

Then figure out how to monetize that
