Trending @Wipro; When “Role-Based Promotion” Turns Into “Manager Mercy”

I discovered today something in Wipro that left me genuinely shocked 🤯

I’ve been in an N+1 role since January 2025 and received a very strong appraisal rating ( a 5 star ) 🌟Naturally, I assumed I would be eligible for a B2 band promotion this January cycle as per the published role-based promotion criteria.

But here’s the twist: 💀 When I reached out to HR, I was told that my allocation was made as a “direct allocation” by the account team — and that means Wipro’s central management has no say in my promotion eligibility. In short, the only way I can get promoted now is if my manager nominates me.

So instead of a structured, policy-driven process, my career progression suddenly depends entirely on my manager’s decision.

I can’t help but wonder — • Why have clearly defined promotion policies if they don’t apply to everyone? • Shouldn’t employees in higher roles automatically be considered based on eligibility, rather than having to “request” or “convince” someone?

For now, I’ll be preparing my case and talking to my manager — but the whole situation really makes me question how fair and transparent Wipro’s promotion policy truly is.🤔

Has anyone else experienced something like this? How did you handle it? 🤔

This is clearly the manager's mistake ..they did not read the policy in detail, just focused on major point that someone should be allocated in the system on next band for 3/6/9 months to be eligible for RBP however cavet is they should not be directly allocated but should be properly gone through IJP ( sr created by Manager for that next band and employee applied against it) or tenure allocation

Can you help me guide on the next probable steps that I need to take ? I’m completely in a blank position now. It’s like a dead end for me. Should I go to my manager about this and have an open chat about this ? Any suggestions ?

Yes connect with the manager and get the tagging done through SR via iAspire for this quarter

You mean that my band in the project has changed from AA to B2. So I will get a promotion soon! Should I raise it with my manager?

Yes you should.

All of these policies etc are only there to tame the lion (employees). You'd think oh I didn't get promoted because my rating is low, or because I didn't do myskillz assessment, or because you didn't achieve domain certification. All these reasons are BS, you'll get promoted when they know that you're about to leave/Never. Don't work to get promoted, work to acquire skills and switch the company itself, that's the way of private jobs post 2000

100% true. Thanks for this.

Can you please explain what is meant by direct allocation

SleepyJellybean
SleepyJellybean

That’s the exact question I asked my HR. And they replied direct allocation is something that my project team head/manager assigns in system in backend.
And until or unless, they ask Wipro management to promote me, Wipro will not take any action on my promotion. Absolute bullshit to be honest 😬

Direct allocation is when some one is allocated against RLS in WiproOne instead of applying against a IJP through IAspire or getting allocated by backend team in tenure allocation ....direct allocation can be done by any PM DM hence they put a criteria for RBP that direct allocations are not valid ....if some one is tagged to next role then it should be through SR on iAspire or Tenured rotation

It was the same for me, but after my resignation, I received a promotion in two months.

This is the really tactics to not go for bulk promotions only depends upon manager feedback n nomination after full fill eligibility criteria.

I had already gone through this with all ultimately result is 0 that’s why I resigned the company and on notice paper now.

So I will suggest you move on in your life
