Whats with this brutal layoff methods

We all understand that there is bad economic cycle going on, political instability is everywhere, can't this companies be more empthatic while laying off people, why to use emotional torture methods like PIP and playing politics, using performance as an execuse, just goddam accept that there is no business, less money is coming on balance sheet hence we have to let you go. Part ways in humbling way (This is not just in India, happening in other countries as well)
