Be independent. Once you taste freedom, you will be unemployable.

I don’t know I thought the solution was to develop skills in deep tech/ ai .

The mantra used to be if web dev is booming(2010-15) be web dev, if app dev is booming(2015-20) do app dev, if virtual meet /webrtc software/ automation tech is booming(2020-22) do that.

Similarly I thought AI would be that and for a short while it was(2022-2024(start)).

But right now it is literally so accessible and at the same time tough to quantify stuff as you might be working on making x/y domain of a firm and making it better with current standards and then suddenly a new model provider/ frontier lab or a current frontier labs new model pops up which is already z% better at the domain and stuff. So these repeated things in the past year 2024 made the firms think about how long do they need ai folks or if there is a need for ai hiring should it be done now or later or if hiring was done earlier some folks can be easily layed off and team can be shortened as we probably want our stuff to remain model agnostic. Since now if you go ahead and say to any firm that you will finetune or build your own on top of open models they will say a big no and would request something on top of current frontier lab models.

And also currently this year openai did a big trophy ceremony and send trophies and stuff to folks who spent a trillion, billion, etc tokens on openai which was not only a way to thank them but also win back-gate data contracts where certain big users of openai/ other providers are providing openai/ others with data through either public(if the company is listed) or closed door(if company is private) deals wherein they get low prices for using openai/ anthropic/ other apis in return. So at the end of the day you either build mcp’s(backend dev) or/and write prompts(english teacher, or not even that since depending on internal data and tokenization mechanisms of models certain gibbrish/ incorrect forms of words have better accuracy than very clear prompts)

Ohh i got it building your own firms is the answer since it has never been easier. Just have to find something that is not in ai or more competitive domains and probably build for profitability from start so that either you can sell or make money off it.
