What's all the hype about?

I am genuinely curious to know what the real reason is that everyone wants to break into PM. I have heard some people joke about it saying "kuch (development) aata nahi toh jack of all trades ban jaate hain" Are there actually any PMs earning higher than their SWE counterparts? Is it because of the "entrepreneurial experience", learning to be the next CEO.
