ZippyPenguin

one has to think about it pretty much all the time... one takes a stock check periodically...40 is a good time to do so, no?

Assuming you want to retire at 40 or somewhere nearby -

The value of your house itself would be 1-2cr (or more) which needs to be fully paid up. Plus, you need 3-5cr income generating corpus on top of it to be able to retire. Idk who thinks you can retire with kids and without a house at 1cr or less than that.

If you’re planning to work till 60 or beyond then it really does not matter; having 50 lakhs in bank is enough. Then you rely on your kids to be your retirement plan.

Just curious . So I have a fully paid up house and a corpus of 4 crore ( some of it illiquid ) now . So by your calcs I can pull the trigger now if I wanted to ? Or at least consider myself financially independent ?

Not everyone plans to retire in metro cities. Most people who have low FIRE targets have ancestral home in their village and will go live there.

Expenditure in villages will be very low. In my hometown (not village) I can't spend more than 20k per month even if want to. Because there is literally nothing to spend.

If OP would have put 10Cr or more, it would have had the highest votes. As the saying goes, the more the merrier.

But I think the poll is a biased one. Having a net worth is totally dependent upon the life choices of a person and their future needs, and also dependent upon their salaries and career growth. So, the poll will give a bad conclusion and not consider the average public in general

The more the better 💁🏼‍♂️

But for me at-least 3x my annual expenses.

The more the better. However, remember that life happens in midst of wishful thinking. So be content
