I THINK If you are single and not living with family or gf - less than 10%

You +wife/gf - ~ 15%

You+wife+parent - ~20%

*assumed salary above 1 LPM

For 1 LPM that's 10k... you're not gonna get anything under 10k in bangalore

10k is not possible then 20k is hard

It's a good deal IMO, specially if you save 2 hrs daily from traffic

Nope. You are compensating for valuable time and no transportation cost. I do spend 16k , my office 20-25 min walk

Ideally 10% or less not more than that. Rent shouldnt burdern you.
How much rent you can pay will exactly boil down to if you get laid off can you afford the rent for atleast six months? That’s your answer. Plan for the worst case scenario always

SwirlyPickle
SwirlyPickle

You don't get a decent place for 10% , it is minimum 20% after my research

Salary: 1.9L PM (in hand) Side income: approx 1.3L PM (sometimes higher)

Going to pay 55k EMI for my house (3BHK) starting next month (jan) Already paying 14k EMI for another house in a different city. Both home loans. Before this last diwali, I was paying 13k rent for a 3BHK.

I'm a technical lead in a service company. Tech stack(if anyone's wondering): Node.js, AWS.

Side income: SaaS (sort of my startup which I built over the past 2 years)

And yes, my side income pays for all of my expenses every month (including all EMIs).

I live with my parents (WFH).

Thinking is thinking everywhere, some people just don’t do it

Next time, try respect. It works better than condescension

25% of salary, living with family.. If you're living alone in a metro city, thumb rule is 15% of salary
