What is your opinion on accepting or rejecting counter offers?

I recently resigned from a MarTech company to join a new one at a 30% pay hike where I will be able to do more fulfilling work.

The reason I'm leaving is the current company's work culture. The second I put down my papers they made me a counter offer for a 100% hike (including ESOPs) and a promotion.

But something tells me it's a trap and that they will either keep me around temporarily or make my life hell.

Has anyone been in a similar situation?
