What is this new role called “Application Engineer” at Flipkart about?

I recently saw that flipkart has been hiring heavily for “Application Engineer” role. What is this role primarily about? Is this a support engineer role or is it like SDE? And if it is like SDE then why is the compensation offered for this role lesser than that of SDE?
