NextJS internally uses React, it is a great framework with SSR capabilities and caching and much more built on top of React, but NextJs cannot exist without React with each React version upgrade NextJs will also get new features. Also with React 18 release I see standalone React becoming very powerful in itself.
Same goes for React internally using JavaScript, yes you are not directly interacting with them but without these foundations you cannot deep dive into modern frontend tools.
