Nowadays product designers are expected to do everything including research and a lot of companies (>95%) of them don't require or value researchers because they rely either on past data or competitor's data to validate their ideas. The minimum research they might need gets fulfilled by the product designers/managers. I would suggest skill up and add design to your skill list.

Sharing my perspective
- Design teams are becoming smaller. There are fewer designer to take up the work load
- Wrt hiring, generalists and UI designers are preferred
- Larger UXR projects are not getting prioritised
Due to these reasons I think the demand for UX Researchers will be low for next few years.
