What is the dark side of working at service based IT companies?
It has almost been 18 months since I have joined TCS. I was on the bench for a total of 5 months in the beginning, and finally got a project.
I went to the office and my manager told me that it would take few days for document verification and security clearance. I was coming to the office daily but had nothing to do. I was getting anxious since I was just watching Youtube videos for almost a month. I wanted WFH but when I asked they said I had to come to office even if I had no work.
Finally, I got a KT from someone working on the project. I came to realise that I was doing work that even a 9th class student can do. The problem? 5 people were doing this work.
The problem? I was working 30 minutes a day. I had to come early to the office, login using my seniors login creds and do timepass work. I have to send an email to our point of contact at the client side that the work is done at the end of the day.
I have learnt nothing here. I feel that these companies are just too inefficient. I am planning to leave ASAP now. I have learnt nothing and I am scared that I will not find another job because I have the Years of Experience but no skills. This is how IT companies destroy your career. Now I am doing DSA to get into another company.

Learn new skill and switch

Switching between companies is the best thing to do as you learn and add credibility to your resume with each switch.

@DeadpooI that is what I am trying to do.

True, another major big flag in service based IT areas is the managers and leads. Even if you show remarkable potential to learn and work. They try to suppress your work and talent. They try to pull you down. Just because they want to boss around, they question our work even though it is correct. India IT itself is the worst. We are just cheap laborers to the companies.

Bench is a big disadvantage of working in service based companies. I have joined cognizant in 2022 and 6 months i was project it was really good work and all, later 6 months i was allocated to some project but no work but work from home , later i was called to office and from five months, as i am on bench but no work and no projects to apply for. I have been trying other companies but no replies also. Its frustrating as we have to go to office but no work and all.

The only thing is majority people will get salary without having any work thatβs the specialty of service based companies π€π»

@Srinivaspallia this is the ultimate reality

What was your degree in? Any other internships or projects you worked on?

@Kamlesh BCA 1 internship
Bro's .. When you have less than 10 years experiences, please don't joine Service based companies. Join small and medium size companies where you can learn a lot with good packages.
Once you attain, 12 + yrs exp, then go to Service based companies and enjoy your rest of your life there...

Us brother @twotime . All service based companies are the same. I'd say at Accenture, there are good projects and learning opportunities but Accenture has its own cons.
- Extended hours of work are a trend here. The senior folks have no life, ready to work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and expect the whole team to work the same way.
- Deserving people don't get rewarded here. You could be putting your heart and soul into work, completing tasks before deadlines, delivering more than what is asked, still, some senior guy will take all credit at the end. So, no hikes/promotions/bonus for you.π
I have been here for a year, already hating it, looking for better opportunities outside.
