What is the average severance when you get laid off for tech companies?

India has severance?

Usually it's whatever is mentioned in your employment contract

Some companies I know gave the salary of the notice period and unused leaves (excluding sick leaves)

Majority of the companies give you your experience letter with good recommendation as severance

Rest pay you your notice period

5 months base pay as Severance at Cisco. (i.e. 2.5 months full salary)

Some companies add one month of additional salary for each year with the firm on top of notice period salaries and unused leaves.

2-3 months seems to be the average in most of the Indian companies i have spoken to
