Trending @Infosys; What is PIP?

I am seeing so many PIP discussions going on. I am a lateral and got allocated to projects within a week after joining, so I am not aware about what PIP is. Can someone explain this in detail and answer the doubts below?

  1. Is it only for people on the bench? Is it mainly focused on freshers?
  2. While you are in PIP, you resigned. What happens if you are serving the notice period of three months? Are you still liable to PIP or can you just sit idle and complete the notice period and leave?
  3. Is PIP a disciplinary system that managers can put you into regardless of your role, seniority and job level at any point of your time with the organization?
  4. While under PIP, any difference in salary that you get in hand?
  5. Is WFH not applicable while you are in PIP? Like, do you have to come to the office all 5 days and hybrid is not possible?
  6. Who conducts/monitors this PIP system? HRD? Education and Learning?

PIP is Performance Improvement Plan mainly designed to Identify and Improve the Performance of Employees identified with drop in performance and it was utilised that way earlier.
Now a days its misused by HR, Managers and Organisations to terminate and to Cut cost.

Unfortunately but that's the fact these days. Govt : ED :: Infy : PIP

  1. Never ever trust your Manager's verbal assurances. 2.Ask HR for exact reasons and Never ever accept PIP unless you know you are actually at the fault or underperforming.
  2. If possible keep/build alternate source of income.Don't rely only on salary.

As far as I know, PIP is mandatory once it is assigned to you. You've to complete it. It may be related to your current project or something totally different activity like participating in a hackathon, completing a case study, course, etc. Apart from managers, HRs are also involved and they monitor your PIP progress usually in a month. Overall, PIP can last for over two or three months depending on the task assigned and on the progress. If you fail to complete it, then HR take disciplinary action.

If someone gets a project will they get exception from PIP?
does PIP depends only on managers whether they can cancel it if they want or its mandatory policy where every NI rated employee has to go through it?
Can we get out of PIP mid way if we are performing well?
