What is "Entrepreneur in Residence"

Came across this recently where someone mentioned that they were an entrepreneur in residence.....what on earth does this mean. What does this entail from a job perspective, what do they do etc. Any VC folks here who can shed light on this ?

In the ideal world- dude that makes new projects come alive in 0-1 and hands them over to teams to scale. In the real world - sometimes does well most times fucks up and gives a 0-1 to a team that'll destroy it in a quarter.

EIR - A highly paid punching bag with no authority at all. They are punched when things go wrong but the wins are secured for team.

A western concept poorly implemented in India.

Highly paid? most of the people I know who joined an EIR role actually took a pay cut, they were getting pop aid much higher as an Engineer, PM or IB

I know few orgs like Near which pay EIRs decently well. I think zomato also planned EIRs kinda role but don’t know the current situation.

+1 to what @Barbaadeshwar said Typically end up doing 0 to 1 projects end to end vs. Founder's Office (which can be a role without any execution sometimes, only working on Founder's tasks)

Some EIRs at companies like UC I knew a few years back, they mentioned it was a very rewarding role

You join to work on a project with not enough bandwidth to execute or identify a new opportunity and take it from 0-1. A high pay and equity role due to the min. YOE required and amount of ownership in the role.

AMA - Working in Founder's Office from past 3 years.

Hello everyone,

Saw quite some people doing AMAs on this platform from VCs to Engineers, but nobody from Founder's Office roles.

Knowing that this role is somewhat new in the job market, not many people still know a lot about it. Shoot...
