Weirdly it’s actually none of these that usually gets you promoted
Truth is, as a manager or director (and by extension as a company) - ultimately what you want from employees is for them to take care of things without you having to worry about it - that’s what gets you promoted usually.
My manager told me in my appraisal meeting recently - “I loved your work on this project, and the reason I loved it so much is that I had absolutely no clue what happened on this, you just made sure everything got shipped on time & worked as expected”
On the other hand for one of my colleagues, my manager rejected his promotion, and said “you know, the problem with him…. I can’t give him some work and forget about it; can’t rely on him to take care of it fully” while with me, my manager has been able to do this time and again.
Building this level of trust is often what makes you valuable to your manager, org & company; and usually it’s what gets you promoted (as you rise higher and higher, the scope/breadth of your ownership needs to increase)

Never take more work. You will burn out and you are dispensable. Work comfortably in given hours, network well, keep jumping ships. Promotion within same company is basically more work for a small hike

You need to show that you are doing the work. It doesn't make sense if you do more work and everyone is unaware about the same.

As you grow in Career you have to show you can bring value to table. Hardwork doesn't guarantee you promotion. You need to project your work, keep giving new ideas to improve and volunteering for critical tasks

Yes, I mean whatever you do should be visible to everyone and make an impact

Being dependable makes you get raises & promotions. Nothing else will. Ask yourself "If you left, how much would it hurt them?" The answer should be " A lot". If it isn't, you've got work to do (on yourself)

never document anything so that no one can replace you

Lol

Getting laid off twice Laid of from Amazon -> Hike at a Startup -> Laid off from the startup -> Hike at the current org

Mostly due to the FAANG tag I have been able to atleast get noticed, applied to more than 300 jobs per layoff. Make sure you’re on every fucking platform naukri, instahyre, cutshort, wellfound, etc etc

Some people just like to be a slave, a dog 🐶 with excitement for his owner(company) to take up more work. They are very good at bootlicking seniors. They usually get the promotion.
