What does the 221g blue slip mean?
I was given a 221g blue slip during my H1B visa interview at the US consulate in Kolkata. The officer kept my passport and asked me to expect an update in 1-2 weeks. He also told me not to worry, but I am not sure how I can not be stressed about it! Could someone explain what this 221g blue slip implies?

There are various reasons for visa refusal by the U.S. Embassy. To make the complex visa approval and rejection process simple, the U.S. Consulate has colour-coded the requirements. If you get a 221(g) letter from the U.S. Embassy, it simply means, your visa application has been kept on hold. It is not a severe case. The Embassy would ask you to submit some additional documents and when you present them with the same, they will review your application again and proceed with the approval process. The blue slip may ask you for documents like the original passport or a copy of the passport. It may also include a list of all the documents that you need to submit before the U.S. Consulate. Understand that these additional documents are important to submit and if you fail to do so your visa will be likely to get rejected.
