What do you guys actually do after 5 PM?

I recently moved to a chill team at my company. i literally shut my laptop at 5:30 PM now. Sounds like a dream, right?

Wrong. I am having a massive existential crisis. For the last 4 years, my entire personality was grinding till 10 PM, bitching about my manager, and ordering late-night Swiggy. Now I have 5-6 hours of free time every evening and I feel completely empty.

I don't have hobbies. All my friends are still stuck on endless Zoom calls. I tried going to the gym but that kills max 1 hour.

People who don't make their CTC their whole life—what do you actually do with your evenings? Do you guys just stare at the wall? Help.

I have never worked past 5 PM. Evenings are my favourite. I go for tea and a small walk. Later I would do some light work if I feel like it. Or utilise time upskilling or reading a book. Sometimes I do nothing, just watch vehicles pass by from the terrace.

Not having hobbies and free time is the best. You can try so many things 😄

I work until 4:30pm everyday. Evenings I go to gym for 2 hrs and then cook and watch some show on Netflix and absolutely not think about work. I sometimes have game nights with friends or go play badminton or some video game in laptop.

  1. Read books. No need to punish with self help, tech papers or famous fiction. Just read what you want.

  2. Learn something. Cooking, guitar, swimming, singing, etc.

  3. Get moving. Football. Basketball, badminton... Check apps like PlayO.

  4. Plan a trip. Can be a relaxing vacation, can be sightseeing or even an adventure trip (hike, camp, etc.)

  5. Spend time with family and friends who are available (in person or over call). This includes parents, of course.

  6. Occasionally, watch some TV series/movies on OTT. Try not to fall into doomscrolling.

  7. Try new hobbies. Art/Craft workshops, watching movies in cinema hall, watching plays, join board games group, go running with the group, join Toastmasters, volunteer, join bike group/trekking group, learn to scrapbook, mentor someone, etc.
