What do people do in Strategy Roles in Startups?

A lot of startups that are losing money tend to have a lot of strategy roles run by ISB/IIM folks. What do they really do? Can they really do any sales or is it just a strategy?

Not seen anyone with 1-2 years of experience (irrespective of colleges) add much value except for doing (smarter) secretarial work for CXOs.

How does your typical day look like in a strategy and ops role?

Bunch of stuff- investor and management presentations and updates, program managing multiple teams and initiatives, planning for the year and quarters, managing resources and ensuring they are aware of the vision etc, internal brand building, and most importantly, getting work done by others
