What are your thoughts on this?

Recently came across the profile of one my client POCs - she works in advertising for context and has 10 YOE.

What she has done over the years is only held contractual positions for a year or so so that she doesn't have to worry about promotion, impressing your boss and all that stuff. She can simply do the stuff she does, earn some money and get out. And repeat.

What is stopping people from doing this? I've rarely come across people doing this in India. After all, isn't money the key factor? .

It will probably become difficult for her over time since senior positions usually require more commitment than a year.

You dont get higher responsibilities, means no higher pay.

You will only remain an IC for your career. Real big change takes time, and need to drive teams towards it. There's a limit to the value an IC, however skilled can bring vs a good lead who has been in the system.
