Just find some mighty company where the chances of getting laid off are relatively low (Google, Apple etc) and stay there until I retire (FIRE or otherwise).

This seems like a big assumption. If you think you will spend max 3 years in your current role before getting promoted, you are doing well. If not, look for things you can change.
