What are the ways to go abroad?

I’m a final year CS student at BITS Pilani, and our placement season is coming up soon. I’ve always dreamed of moving back to the US (I lived in Cupertino until I was six), and I’m not sure how to make that happen. What are the different paths I could take to get there? I’ve heard about joining an MNC in India and then transferring internally on an H-1B visa, or going for further studies (either MS or MBA), but I’d love to understand all the options. I’d really appreciate any advice or insights!

One common route is, join a service company in India like TCS, Infosys, HCL etc. which has large onsite presence abroad, be a top performer at offshore for 1-2 years, and then negotiate for transfer to an onsite role.

Are there specific offshore projects in a company? How do you identify them, like the fact that they'll give us an opportunity to work onshore/in the US?

Most projects for foreign clients work in an onsite-offshore model, where there are some employees located onsite in a foreign country, and a larger team located at offshore in India.

So joining any project where the client is any large foreign company, should ideally have some foreign onsite positions associated with it. Work in any such project for 1-2 years at offshore in India and perform well, and then negotiate for a foreign onsite role.
