What are the key challenges faced when working in a product-based company compared to a service-based company?

In product companies, there's more of “royal court” politics, gossip, & fawning culture among the long-term / lifer leaders & employees because of long-term associations and power-games among them.

That doesn’t happen so much in consulting companies because projects start & finish, and team structures & power dynamics change frequently.
