What are retirement plans after IT?

So me and my husband were discussing yesterday about our possible options after retiring from IT. What we can do if we plan to retire early and how to pursue it. I suggested to invest in farming land now. What others think? What are your plans if you retire between 45-50?

Farming is a difficult activity. By difficulty i mean, it much more complex and time consuming. It is not something that can be done by watching you tube videos. leave that aside for the moment. Many ceos/leadership level people start their own venture. Most fail. Very very few, succeed. Why? because we underestimate the structure available in corporate environment. We mistake the safety net of the team and organization to individual brilliance. Having used to forward emails, saying please take care, in own business, ne has to get their hands dirty. by 50, these people have ling forgotten that. Sure, with the contacts gained over a period of time, they can get a few contracts. But will eventually fizzle out as they no linger have people bowing to their beck and call.

Working in cities, most of us gain zero life skill. our knowledge is limited to excel and ppt. None of this is worth beyond a small circle of usage. This is one of the reason people who come to city, especially the white collar workers never go back. Even in the west very few people go back to smaller town or village. at the most they stick around to the suburbs. Some people, during their working life, transition to a smaller city and retire there.

In India, by 40-50 , the middle aged person is going to have either school going kids or is one of those single unmarried types. who know nothing beyond excel and ppt. Or most likely these are the ones that used to love "travelling" or "photography" type. We City Indians do not know how to handle isolation and silence.

People who plan to retire early, people in city without jobs are dead wood. They simply get bored, eventually get used to it.
