Rule wise yes it's necessary, but if you don't what max they'll do? They don't do anything to people who are working and not coming to office once a week.

Of course not fine, your pl and HR partner will ask you questions, pressure you to come to office. You won't be considered for hikes promotion and even your variable pay will be affected.
