WFO doesn't make sense!

Let me explain the situation and people please help me with this!

I'm asked to work from the office. But my deputed location doesn't let me in because my project is not having an ODC neither there nor anywhere in my city. Manager is asking me to visit any local office. There is no seat availability there. Manager asks me to spend an hour or two in cafeteria or library to fulfill compliance. There are no proper desks. There is no reliable internet facilities. If my use my personal internet via mobile my project's virtual desktop doesn't open up. If you try to find a place to sit and work...like any empty desks ..or even a chair in a cafeteria.. people would investigate who you are and why you are here and say not to occupy those seats even if they are empty anymore.

I mean just WHY? WHY? WHY?

Why does the management wants me to work from office even when there is no team nor even a desk.

And if I skip a day or two... I'm branded as non-compliant with respect to the office policy.

Wasn't that a WOW story...sorry...true incident which is happening to me.

Just ask for a release from the project. That's it. The manager is a fool in your project by the looks of what he/she is demanding for so called compliance.

Release won’t solve the problem. The next manager would sing the same song again.

Then resign from TCS. As work from office is a must in almost all the projects but at least you might get an ODC to work on. The RTO will cause problems in the time of appraisal. That's my point.

Don't apply for any exceptions and all just tell your manager what happens when you visit office and ask him if there is any work around that u dont have to go to office.. ask this in team meetings as well... and if he says no... Then start being unavailable giving the same reason... Sooner he will realise your problem and either he will allow WFH or realise you.. simpleπŸ˜…

I'm not sure how to handle this when they say this is directly proportional to my rating.

See bro you cant have all the good things together.. either u get good ratings or you get the work from home option..rating and all also depends upon manager only i have heard of people working from home till now and getting good reviews and rating its just that how you play the game.πŸ˜…

You can simply apply wfo exception stating unavailability of odc. HR will definitely approve.

Thanks for the info. Could you please let me know where to raise this exception? Is it like a formal email or any process in ultimatix?

TCS management is notorious for making rules with zero common sense.

I visit an ODC which is luckily just 5 minutes from my house. Sit there for a while and get back home. Use that time to study for GMAT and prep for interviews.

You can try connecting to your HRBP mentioning technical issues while visiting the office. They'll give you either WFH or proper infrastructure to work.

Let me give you a way out.

Step 1: Ask manager which office, which ODC, which seat number is assigned for you. For this involve HR as well if needed. Step 2: There can be 2 results from above, either you get a seat allocated, or you get a common ODC to workout from. Either which ways you can get support from IS team only when you have a dedicated ODC to setup connectivity for your work. Also step 1 will mean your supervisor cannot ask you to come to office and sit in cafeteria. Step 3: As soon as you get a free ODC/Seat, just swipe in, attempt working from office. If there's any issues at all, notify manager and chill in office. DO NOT COMPENSATE FOR TIME LOST IN OFFICE BY WORKING FROM HOME. Step 4: Continue step 3 indefinitely - either you will be assigned a proper seat with connectivity or you will be granted an exception through supervisor and HR

Remember, enabling an associate to work from office is the responsibility of HR and your immediate supervisor.
