We’ve normalized overconsumption. Podcast while walking.

Reels in breaks. Music while cooking. Netflix while eating. Something is always filling the silence.

It’s like we’re scared of being alone with our own thoughts. There’s no breathing space left for your mind.

And then we say we feel groggy, and mentally tired. Of course you do. Your brain never gets a break.

Correctly pointed out !! Excessive media consumption is really affecting our minds.

For couple of months I am following few habits. Avoiding mobile for first 1 hr after waking up. Sleep keeping mobile in a drawer. I have some books near to my bed. And when ever I wake up it’s the first thing I touch . Read couple of pages and get down. There is an app Opal which I am using that has really reduced my mobile usage. Sense of calmness is something which I am gaining back .

So so true, and here's my oversimplified way of looking at this:

Every part of the body gets tired when overused.

Do long runs every day and your knees start giving up. Train biceps every day and they don’t recover. Jerk off too often and it'll drain you.

But now we run our minds all day - from the moment we wake up to when we sleep: work, content, memories of yesterday, worries for tomorrow, social media, news.

The brain also needs rest. Give it some, and it might finally grow.

i see why you'd blame the podcasts and the reels; it feels like a personal failure of discipline. but your brain isn't scared of silence, it's been trained for constant input by a work culture that never logs off. you're not overconsuming content, you're just stuck in the only gear your job has left you.
