was given a sudden mid year raise, plans to lay back and chill is ruined now

I was promoted earlier this year and was given a 18% hike + equal bonus. so this year my plans were to chill, lay back and may be look for a new job as the next year's appraisal cycle will put me back in a sub 8% generic appraisal like the rest of my team. I had to keep the exact hike details a secret from my team members as I literally got double% then them.

now someone from my team quit, so the bosses decided to nominate some ppl from the department for mid year hike. and somehow, only I was given another 20% hike from my team, which was totally not expected. now again I have to keep this a secret from everyone else. expectations have increased out of me.

there is no motivation for me to work this year. in the coming yearly appraisal I will only receive a bonus as I got a early hike just now. but I sort of wanted to lay low... be out of sight, out of mind... since I have a hybrid work structure... all is gone to ruin... my plans to game on my console during work hours when working from home, but more money is always welcome.

truly suffering from success, that I can't relay my feelings on my situation this sudden hike to anyone... so posting here.

I had a similar issue, joined my current org and was promoted in 6 months with 40% hike mid year, thought i would relax then, yearly appraisal cycle 40% more, thought i would lay back again, then mid year cycle bam 20%, I thought I would try switching companies, but my manager has initiated for another promo this year

Don't know what to do🫠

it's like forcefully handing some money and asking to work more. now you have to act grateful for being given more work and money.

If you are getting paid the way you want, you should not be running away from work. With this way of thinking and attitude, you won't go far. If it just a weired way of flex, nevermind.

I already crib about disproportionate work that some of us in my team already do. not that I have been handed some money... I have to zip my mouth and accept it for a while.

I sometimes see a lot of discussions in other forums about being more transparent with your salaries among your colleagues, what are your opinions?

PrancingNugget
PrancingNugget

yes... but what to do when you are explicitly told to not tell. also my team members YOE are at different levels.. so our salaries are also different. the promotion and hike was justified... but this mid year surprise hike is what I am stuck with unable to be revealed.

Op was buying sodas and consumables to prep the party of winning the lottery.
What to say, the soda cans - scratch and win again won him another lottery.

How we wish we had similar problems.. 🤯🤑🤯
