Was being lowballed 2 months ago, landed two 55-60% higher offers this week
My previous company shut down a couple of months ago. Interviewed a bunch leading up to it and landed an offer 20% below my previous comp. The offer felt exploitative and I even posted about it on Grapevine.
A lot of folks told me my salary was being corrected and I was overpaid in my previous role.
But what felt wrong felt wrong. Ended up letting that offer go -- had decent runway, and hence, was able to do so.
Interviewed with 6 more companies, Faced a bunch of last minute rejections as well. But finally landed better offers with teams I'm way more excited to work with.
Key takeaways:
- Gut > Market Data > Subjective Opinions when it comes to assessing offers
- Runway = resilience, save up for rainy days -- going to take this way more seriously moving forward

Damn nice, congratulations 🎊, what's your yoe? And any tips on how did you land these interviews? I am also looking for a full time ML Engineer or SWE role now.

Thanks :)
3YOE. It's been a numbers game for me -- reach out to 20-30 folks on LinkedIn from different companies that have openings (ideally hiring managers or senior leaders). 5-6 may reply, 3-4 may get you an interview. Sell yourself well with numbers, side projects, brand names, etc. without making your message too long. Cut every word that's unnecessary.
Also, ex-colleagues, friends, etc. are generally kind enough to refer.
Might be a bit different for tech, but can't really go wrong with this approach imo.

Hey congratulations
Can you refer me for a business role !
Just left a workplace that felt toxic and have some decent runway

Congratulations on your new role and kudos for not accepting the low-balled offer. I actually accepted one role in the marketing field that is 20% lower than my last salary as the last company did multiple rounds of cost reductions. (They were always in loss, being a private company..data was not available). Could you lease share some tips as to how to move to Product management from digital marketing? I have 6 years of experience across industries and markets. Thanks

Switching internally is your best bet because the demand supply is completely skewed against folks trying to break into PM. Make your intentions clear to product leadership and try picking up stuff beyond your regular KRA. Find drop off points in a product funnel and think of simple tweaks to optimise them. Make sure your work is seen. That's your best bet.
Otherwise, take a problem and build a side project. Most importantly get some users. Sell this side project really well when pitching to hiring managers. That's the only way to differentiate yourself imo.

Can you please share your YOE and compensation?

Congratulations on your new role. Mindset really changes the game altogether. I was also searching for full time role couldn't get any converted. Was getting offered intern roles even though worked as a full time. Finally got one after believing in myself and making a positive Outlook towards the responses I received.
Well deserved!!

Good for you.
I was once in that state and left the company. Still looking for job and now hiring is not much to even ask for 30% increase . Hope the situation change sooner

Congratulations bro! The sole purpose of this corporate world is to get over paid. So there is no such thing as salary market correction

Share some tips please! Much needed, same situation. Also, what's your profile? How did you negotiate, how did you prepare?

Congratulations!
