Was asked to resign but I got laid off
Hello Grapevine fam,
I want to share my story and get everyone's suggestions on how to proceed.
I have been working with this startup for more than two years. Recently, my manager and HR head called me for a meeting and said I wasn't living up to their expectations and they wanted me to resign. In the same discussion they said, the company would be paying 2 months salary as severance pay and my LWD would be in June since the notice period here is 2 months and this would help me in my job hunt.
So having faith in this company, I resigned. Right after that my manager and the HR head is not legally acknowledging the two months of my salary as severance pay. And the very same day, they sent me the experience letter which had the same day as my last working day, despite them mentioning my LWD would be in June.
How do I proceed now? I have given my best to the company in the last two years. But things turned out this way, very dejected and disappointed with the startup.

Realised that, focusing only on job hunt.

Update folks: I got an email from the HR. I will be getting two months of my salary as severance pay! I'm so relieved.

That's so nice 👍

name the company and let this post get viral

I have learnt a lot from the ceo and company and am very thankful for this. But feels like I'll be burning the bridges completely, if I reveal the company.

I'm a founder and CEO and I would like to say you owe no one anything more than you should. You did your work, you got compensated and you also got to learn while the CEO got to teach. When times were tough, they treated you badly. I always communicate in writing and minute every discussion to ensure that everyone is on the same page and things are fair for both sides.

Every single IT professional gets laid off atleast once in his career. It has very little to do with your talent. There are hundreds of other factors on the company and business side to cut the expenses . So cheer up and take 2 weeks off to your home place and come back and start job hunting again. You will get a lot of offers because you have zero notice period.

Thank you mate, this means a lot.

Whats the matter with many posts on grapevine which don't reveal the company name?

The person going through the experience can be backtracked and people don't want to risk the Background Verification

Don't feel dejected or disappointed, you are resourceful asset for their startup. You been there for long go you were required to raise your opinion at that time for being maltreated like this (cause as you admited that you were living upto organizational expectations ) laying off could be done in company but giving valid reasons and atleast paying some of losses employee will face at certain.
Now the thing is, it is already happened
Atleast you should ask them to bear losses whatever they had ask you to pay like salaries of two month should be in formal ways like in writings .cause in organization or in any kind of professional relations or life anything GET VALUED IF IT IS IN WRITTEN FORM so that it brings you to take steps forward(claim).
Now try to get this if possible and look forward for your next job .
All the best!

Thank you for your detailed response. I'll be doing this.
