Vent: Does anyone else hate being asked to set goals at work?
It's not as if I don't have (personal) goals — improving technically, learning fullstack (currently a frontend dev), gradually devops, and, most importantly, learning to maintain a healthy WLB so that I can dedicate more time to my own health and interests instead of having my blood sucked in exchange for peanuts.
What I hate is the forced and rigid nature of it. Over time I've discovered that rigid schedules and goals don't really work for me, so I just take it each day as it comes. Having to fill an excel sheet to document my goals, along with the time it'll take to achieve them, to later be scrutinized over it, is really getting on my nerves.
I've also been looking to switch anyway, which makes this exercise seem even more futile, because in my heart I already have one step out of the door.
Folks of GV, what do you think? Are you asked to set goals at work? Is it just me or do you too feel this frustration?

I never knew we could say that loud. I ABSOLUTELY detest them! Dude I don't even know what I'll have for dinner. Don't ask what I'll achieve in next 3 months. Let's go with flow for now

That's such a relief to know! I was going crazy internally because my colleagues have hardly talked about it. Maybe they're afraid to speak up too? Or maybe just trying to avoid the agony, like me :P
At least in software development, I guess this can only work out if one's career goals align with the company's. Otherwise the whole idea is just fundamentally flawed.

I was asked to set my own OKRs for my job interview. Frustrated me so much that i told them I don't want to join anymore.

Goal setting should always be a company leader's/seniors job. If leader doesn't know what goal to set, it's pointless to expect juniors and mid level employees to be able to do so.
That too without joining the company 🤦♂️
