USA Salary vs Indian salary. Confused with H1B offered package

Got cleared H1B lottery this year. Probably traveling by this year end. But confused with H1B offered package in Jacksonville Florida. Is it worth going or not?

US offered salary - 87k PA Indian salary - 19 LPA Wife- 16 LPA (She won't be able to work on H4 visa if we go. We are trying for Visa sponsorship from her org) Baby- 1.5 years old Major focus- savings with career progression and some global exposure as well.

You & your spouse earn Appx 35 lakhs in India. Calculate your savings here.

Get hold of someone who's already in that USA location and get an estimate of your onsite expenses. Be sure to factor in apartment rental, house setup from scratch, car buying , car running, groceries, eating out, kid's requirements, cost of visiting India every alternate year etc.

Then calculate your onsite savings. If onsite savings are atleast 2-3 times of offshore savings, it's worth travelling. Else it's simply too much of a headache starting from scratch in a foreign country with family.

If you would have been a bachelor I would have suggested going to onshore eyes closed.

Not relevant at this point of time. My last USA experience is more than a decade old. A lot of things have changed since then.

Biggest benefit of going to US on H1B is after a certain time you can leave your current organisation and search outside which are better paying. Since your kid is young you can definitely give a try.

I heard that switching job on H1B is not that easy over there. Lot of legal formalities, permissions involved. Any information on this?

That's true lot of paper work...But many of colleagues had done it...not aware about recent policies

if your wife doesn't get a visa sponsorship from her employer, ask her to take sabbatical. you should definitely go to US. If you feel the salary is less or you are not liking it there, can anytime return back and your wife and rejoin her job. Trust me, you will still save a lot in US than in India.

Thank you for your sharing your view. I did not think this could also be an option. On saving part, I did not get you. It looks okay-ish offer in US. I don't know how much I can save

Currently the inflation is high in all countries. So check you savings in India as in US they have to spend a lot compared to india
