Uploading Passport photo for job application

Some companies are asking the candidates to upload their passport size photo along with govt I'd details while applying for jobs in the company's career page by the companies like... Accenture, Infosys...etc. I am just wondering why are they collecting all these personal and professional details of the candidates before hiring ? Is it really required to collect? And that also why they want to select the candidate based on the looks, wherein they claim they are against age, race, colour and gender?? I don't mind sharing all those details post selection but why before joining? And we don't know whether we will get selected/ hired or not...then why to share these details with them?
