Update on the job hunt
I have continued the hunt no matter what. Still haven't received a offer.
Till now I would have applied for 150 companies. Got around 20 calls. Materialized it into 10 interviews. I went through second in one of them but got failed because of bad querying skill. Waiting for second round in another 2 companies. Hoping they'd call.
Getting into continuous interviews realised how much precious time I have lost not working in active development projects. Lot of skills gap!. I do get demotivated. But The hunt is still on!
Not sure if you will believe this or not but there are lot of us having the same problem - having skill gap compared to prevailing skill in job market. TCS is place where you can easily get trapped into comfort level if not constantly thinking about same.
In your case probably, you would feel more because you are software developer and it would require lot of coding to crack interview. But it is same with people having different skill.
I am also trapped into support role for last 8 months and i know how it can hinder skills as it leads nowhere. Neither does it give you complete exposure nor it gives enough time to upgrade technical skill. I am scared of my current situation I am not even from technical background.
But since you have some background, don’t loose hope, you will soon get something better. Keep upgrading yourself as now you have enough time daily to sharpen your skill. It is just matter of time. Note the time you are spending on learning skill each day and try to give maximum time on learning, take it as challenge and come out like phoenix
