Unpopular Opinion

Okay, this is from my past experiences in 3 companies.

Last two companies had people from lower tier colleges, polytechnics (upper and lower hierarchy). If MBA too, from local colleges

Cut to current company, almost every other person is IIT or IIM or IIT + IIM

I am handing over my role as I'm transitioning out. In the current one, I have given the same handover to multiple people, multiple times to each one. Going over each order, each account, each customer - despite everything documented over excel, folders, mails, WhatsApp

Previously it was just, this is handover folder let me know if you have questions. And they would say, you don't worry we'll manage from here.

Why is it so difficult with people from top education institutions?

In the repeated handover, were they asking the same questions or going into more details?

Same questions. I have gone over each point so many times now, that i can recite without the handover sheets

That's just unfortunate.

I know you didn't ask for a solution and it's only a rant. But it's better to video record such a session. Next time you can just send a video link.

My theory is, being over meticulous is not as good as it sounds. They are used to not being sloppy or even slightly unprepared so that’s the reason they maybe be asking for things to be repeated just to make sure that they have every detail in account.

Good point

Another I think is confidence levels in local college grads; they probably think twice before asking a question again.

Somewhere I heard- "There are only idiots at the top" Maybe this fits here🙏
