Undeniable Proof of work is the surest way to outdo your ‘tier 3’ background

I wanted to share something with my perspective as somebody who has been hiring in tech for some time.

Yes, it is very much true that most companies in India look at background and college and don't even try to talk to people from tier 2 or tier 3 college backgrounds.

So how can somebody who is from a tier 2+ college do well?

In my understanding, I have found only one thing that leads to success, and that is continued long-term build out of your proof of work.

If you're a designer, have an excellent portfolio with real clients. If you're a developer, have great projects with real traction. If you're a marketer, have an Instagram page with a big following or have an app that you've grown to a certain number of users

No good hiring manager or founder worth their salt will ever reject somebody who's actually done cool work that they themselves haven't done/aren’t capable of
