How To Push The Joining Date?
Suppose you promised to join a company on X date, but there are chances of landing an even better offer in X+10 days, how do you push the joining date at the former company?
Hey folks, need some quick advice! Got an offer from a company with a 6th June joining date. But here's the catch — my stocks (20% of my CTC) vest on 18th June. Missing them for just 10 days would really sting. How do I buy time without raising red flags? Should I say:
My current manager needs more transition time?
I have a family emergency? The HR’s already pushing hard for an early resignation and might suspect I’m still negotiating. Can’t mention the stocks (already used that angle for a hike). What’s the best way to handle this so I can delay joining till 20th June without spooking them?
Ask for a short delay politely. Say: "I need to wrap up my current role properly. Can we move my start date to June 20th for a smooth transition?" Keep it honest and professional.

What would be the best reason to delay joining? And is it better to tell a next employer you need extra time before or after receiving a job offer? Ans how much max can be delay.
